UV Secondary Disinfection for Commercial Aquatic Facilities

Chlorine alone struggles with chloramines and chlorine-resistant pathogens such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. UV treats water as it passes through the plant room, breaking down chloramines and inactivating pathogens without adding chemicals to the pool.

The result is clearer water, less pool odour, reduced eye and skin irritation and lower ongoing chemical use, with systems sized to suit everything from plunge pools to aquatic centres.

Why Choose Waterlink UV

Chloramine reductionUV breaks down chloramines, the cause of pool smell and eye irritation, improving both water and indoor air quality.
Pathogen controlInactivates chlorine-resistant pathogens such as Cryptosporidium, Giardia and E. coli as water passes through the chamber.
Low-pressure or medium-pressureChoose low-pressure UV from 200 to 440 W in a PVC chamber, or titanium medium-pressure UV from 1 to 2 kW for higher output.
Built to integrateCompatible with most commercial pool systems, with design and integration support from Waterlink’s technical team.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does UV disinfection work in a commercial pool?

As water passes through the UV chamber, UV light inactivates pathogens and breaks down chloramines. Treatment happens in the plant room, so your primary sanitiser continues to maintain the residual in the pool.

Does UV replace chlorine?

No. UV provides secondary disinfection. It targets chlorine-resistant pathogens and chloramines, while chlorine or another primary sanitiser provides ongoing residual protection in the pool.

What is the difference between low-pressure and medium-pressure UV?

Synergy Econ uses low-pressure UV lamps from 200 to 440 W in a PVC chamber. Synergy MP and MP UV use medium-pressure UV in a titanium chamber, with outputs from 1 to 2 kW for higher-output treatment.

What is the difference between MP UV and Synergy MP?

MP UV is a dedicated medium-pressure UV system. Synergy MP pairs the same titanium medium-pressure UV technology with ozone to create an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) for enhanced oxidation.

Which system suits a plunge pool or small plant room?

Synergy Plunge. Its compact vertical design suits confined plant rooms, it can be mounted horizontally or vertically, and it is designed for hot or cold plunge pools and pools and spas below 100,000 litres.

Can UV capacity be increased later?

Yes. Synergy Plunge can take a second UV lamp at any time, doubling UV output without re-plumbing. Synergy LTS is modular, so capacity can be increased without replacing the core system.
